An unidentified man who drove his pickup truck onto thin ice in the Outer Harbor off Gallagher Beach was rescued by the Buffalo Fire Department’s rescue squad as it appeared that the truck was about to sink at around 9:15 p.m. on Thursday.
An off-duty firefighter driving on Furhmann Boulevard saw the pickup on the ice and called Fire Rescue. The off-duty firefighter warned that the vehicle seemed to be in four-inch thick ice and said he thought it would take eight-inch thick ice to keep it from sinking. Rescue workers reached the scene quickly and performed the rescue. No injuries were reported.
