The big gate
Word is a compromise is being worked out on the big wrought iron gate with attached fence at the Miller Mansion on Nottingham Terrace. I'm hearing the agreement will probably involve the owners getting to fence in two sides of their property, on Nottingham Terrance and Lincoln Parkway. No fence behind the property or on its eastern side.
It's not a done deal, though. The property owner and neighborhood representatives are continuing to talk. As of now, from what I'm told, the two sides hope to come back to the Zoning Board in March, which would indicate they hope to have the issue straightened out by then.
Feeling comfortable with Uber
When the Lyft ride-booking service appeared in Buffalo for a short-time in 2014, South District Councilman Chris Scanlon was among those speaking against the service that was soon shut down for not meeting New York State regulations.
But now, two years later, Scanlon says Lyft and Uber, the other ride-booking service, have his support. Scanlon's past concern, he said earlier this week, was about inadequate background checks of drivers, raising ridership safety issues. He no longer has those concerns, Scanlon said. The councilman said he met in recent weeks with the ride-sharing services and is satisfied they are now doing thorough background checks of their drivers.
"I feel more comfortable with it at this point," he said. Lyft and Uber still need state approval, which they hope to receive this year, to operate in Buffalo and the rest of upstate New York.
The Zoning Board on Wednesday rejected Frizlin Group's plan to construct 24 condos with underground parking at 794 Potomac Ave.
