Herbert Norton Reynolds, a retired district manager in the Circulation Department at The Buffalo News, died last Wednesday at his home in Virginia Beach, Va., under hospice care. He was 84.
Born in Buffalo, he attended Seneca Vocational High School and began working for The News at age 16 as a hopper, jumping off trucks to deliver newspapers to carriers and stores. He advanced to become a driver and then a district circulation manager. He retired in 1991.
Mr. Reynolds was active in the Boy Scouts, starting as a leader at Troop 125 when his son, Herbert J., became a Scout. He later was scoutmaster at Troop 37 in the Kenmore Baptist Church. In Virginia, where he moved in 1998, he returned to scouting when one of his grandsons became a Scout.
He also was active in Kenmore Baptist Church, serving as a deacon and an usher. He also was a member of the church bowling team.
His wife of 30 years, the former Jean Lipka, died in 1980.
Survivors include two sons, Herbert J. and Michael; two daughters, Kathleen Walker and Diane; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services were held Tuesday morning in the chapel at Forest Lawn.
