Paul H. Steinig, a longtime physical education teacher and athletic director for the Cheektowaga Central School District, died Thursday in Elderwood at Williamsville after a long illness. He was 76.
The longtime resident of the City of Tonawanda also lived in North Tonawanda, Long Beach, Ont., and North Point, Fla.
Born in North Tonawanda, he graduated from North Tonawanda High School in 1957 and earned a degree in physical education from the University of Buffalo in 1961.
Mr. Steinig was employed by the Cheektowaga school district for 35 years, serving as a physical education teacher, coach and athletic director.
He was chairman of the City of Tonawanda Zoning Board of Appeals, president of Cedars Homeowners Lakeside Corp. in Wainfleet, Ont., and a board member of Lazy River Village in North Port. He also was a longtime member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, New York State United Teachers and the Cheektowaga Education Association.
He enjoyed boating, hunting, fishing and travel.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, the former Linda L. Gallagher; two sons, Jeffrey and Kevin; a daughter, Paula Jones; and 11 grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 150 Broad St., City of Tonawanda.
