Union movement has raised standards for working class
So a bunch of California teachers think they’d fare better without union involvement. I suggest they go back to school and study labor history.
What they’ve enjoyed so far are regulated work schedules, decent wages, overtime pay, a grievance mechanism and rules that protect health and safety – all benefits hard-won over the years by their union brothers and sisters.
Try going it alone against a corporation or entrenched bureaucracy. Not only is there safety in numbers, but there is clout.
Look closely at this case and you will see a thinly veiled attempt to turn back the clock and subvert workers’ rights.
Can we hope that this divided Supreme Court will side with the American union movement and its proud legacy of raising standards for all working people?
