Letter: ‘Noise’ Obama refers to is the voice of the people

‘Noise’ Obama refers to is the voice of the people

A presidential “ad-lib” says it all. About 50 minutes into President Obama’s State of the Union address, he says: “Democracy breaks down when the average person feels their voice doesn’t matter.”

Then he says, a minute or two later, that congressmen “feel trapped by the imperatives of getting elected, by the noise coming out of your base” (not in prepared text).

Uh, “noise”? Like from average people who feel their voice doesn’t matter?

Obama, shame on you. I guess by “elevated debate” you mean where average people’s voices are ignored.
