A Clarence Center construction firm admitted a role in an unemployment insurance scam that bilked the state out of $79,616 between January 2007 and April 2015, acting District Attorney Michael J. Flaherty announced this week.
Milherst Construction located on County Road specializes in large site development. The company encouraged employees to claim and collect jobless funds in winter months while they were working on snow removal contracts for Milherst, Flaherty said.
As the result of the guilty plea to second-degree grand larceny, the company was required to make full restitution plus pay $12,461.65 to the state Department of Labor.
Erie County Assistance District Attorneys Gary M. Ertel and Christopher P. Jurusik of the Special Investigations and Prosecutions Bureau prosecuted the case.
