Tonawanda Winterfest on tap this weekend

Youth, high school and adult hockey games, free recreational skating and a host of other events are on tap this holiday weekend at Winterfest 2016 in the Town of Tonawanda. There even will be an adult outdoor softball tournament.

Most events will take place inside and outside Lincoln Park Arena, Parker Boulevard and Decatur Road, save an international model boat show from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday in the Aquatic and Fitness Center, 1 Pool Plaza, and “Name That Tune” challenge, as part of a free family fun gathering, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at Sheridan Parkside Community Center, 169 Sheridan Parkside Drive.

Highlights include:

  • Youth hockey, 8:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Saturday, Lincoln Arena.
  • Adult outdoor softball tourney, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, outside the arena.
  • Food truck visits, including Lloyd’s Taco Truck and Chef’s Restaurant from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, and Lloyd’s and (716) from 6;30 to 9 p.m. Saturday outside the arena.
  • Watch the Buffalo Sabres battle the Washington Capitals on the big screen inside the arena from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday.
  • Free recreational swim from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Sunday in the Aquatic Center.
  • Free recreational skating pizza party, sponsored by the Town of Tonawanda Police Department, from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. Monday in the arena.
