Buffalo landed yet another hockey event as College Hockey America announced that it will play its semifinal and championship game at HarborCenter in March.
This marks the first time the women's Division I hockey conference will hold its tournament at a neutral site.
The success of last year's IIHF Women's U18 World Championship at the downtown Buffalo facility sparked the interest of the CHA.
"HarborCenter is a top-notch facility that has shown that it can support the sport of women's ice hockey to its fullest extent," CHA commissioner Robert DeGregorio said in a statement. "We are looking forward to the partnership and the exposure that both the CHA and our member institutions will receive."
DeGregorio is also familiar with HarborCenter's success with college hockey. The CHA shares administration with Atlantic Hockey and DeGregorio has been to the Buffalo facility several times to watch Canisius play.
The CHA received its automatic bid to the NCAA tournament last season, secured by RIT. Other league members include Mercyhurst, Syracuse, Robert Morris, Lindenwood and Penn State.
The 2016 CHA touranment begins with a best-of-three first-round series at campus sites. The event moves to HarborCenter on March 4 for the semifinals and March 5 for the championship. Times will be announced later.
