The Buffalo Niagara Partnership selected 10 local women as finalists for the 2016 Athena Awards. The recipients will be presented at an awards ceremony on March 15th at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center. The finalists are: Dianna Civello, AVP for Institutional Advancement, Canisius College; Aimee Gomlak, vice president of Women’s Services, Catholic Health; Amy Habib-Rittling, partner, Lippes Mathias Wexler Friedman; Althea Luehrsen, CEO, Leadership Buffalo; and Mary Travers-Murphy, executive director, Family Justice Center. The Athena Young Professional Leadership Award finalists are: Kellena Kane, real estate development manager, Uniland Development; Cindi Marie McEachon, executive director, Hope of Buffalo, Peaceprints; Bridget Niland, director of athletics/special assistant to the president, Daemen College; Morgan Williams-Bryant, senior vice president of Membership and Programs, Girl Scouts of Western New York; and Pamela Witter, vice president, Development & Community Engagement, Trocaire College. A winner will be named from the Leadership Award finalists and the Young Professional Leadership Award finalists.


Dr. Joshua Grant, a private practice periodontist in West Seneca and Williamsville, was recently named 2016 president of the Erie County Dental Society.

Company Connections

Colligan Law sponsored the Upstate Venture Association of New York 2016 Venture Forum. The event, held Thursday at the Saturn Club, included a panel comprised of CEOs of leading Western New York companies that have received venture capital funding: Ken Rosenfeld, CEO and president, eHealth Technologies; Robert Anstey, CEO, Graphenix Development; and Patrick Finan, co-founder and CEO of City Dining Cards. The panel discussion was moderated by Colligan Law.


The employees of Merchants Insurance Group raised $29,488 in 2015 for various nonprofit groups in Western New York Merchants Insurance Group employees contributed more than $407,000 from 1999 through 2015 to charities. The organizations the company supported were chosen through employee suggestions, and the employees raised funds through activities such as “dress-down” days, raffles and split clubs.
