Former Buffalo deli owner spared prison for food stamp fraud

Alie Hassan, 30, of Buffalo, a former Buffalo deli owner, was spared a federal prison term but was ordered Thursday by U.S. District Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford to repay the U.S. Department of Agriculture $69,348 in fraudulent food stamp revenue he allegedly received. The operator of the Broadway Mart & Deli at 1358 Broadway from April 2011 to Aug. 30, 2012, Hassan would illegally purchase food stamps from persons at his business for less than their full value, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Marie P. Grisanti.
