Buffalo woman faces charges after high-speed chase on I-990

A 25-year-old woman whose allegedly reckless driving caused another car to get a flat tire Thursday from guardrail debris on Maple Road in Amherst was finally stopped by Amherst police near Exit 3 on the northbound Lockport Expressway.

Mariana G. Virginia, who allegedly fled as police patrol cars arrived at a Maple Road motel to check on reports of a fight, was arrested about 3 p.m.

As Virginia drove off from the parking lot of the motel, she allegedly spun out of control and struck a guardrail, causing a big field of debris, but she sped off onto the I-990.

She was charged with reckless driving, second-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree unlawfully fleeing a police officer and numerous vehicle and traffic law infractions.
