MLK rally scheduled Monday in Olean

OLEAN – Economic justice will be the focus of the annual Martin Luther King Day march and rally here organized by Southwest Regional New York State United Teachers and the Olean Teachers Association.

The march will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Olean High School, 410 W. Sullivan St., and pass the offices of State Sen. Catherine Young, R-Olean, and Assemblyman Joseph Giglio, R-Gowanda, in Westgate Plaza at 700 W. State St., where marchers will ask for their support for an increase in the state minimum wage, safe staffing levels in health care facilities and full funding for public education.

The march will end with a rally in Lincoln Park at Union and East State streets, where speakers will include Rev. Kim Rossi of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Olean; Kirk Laubenstein, executive director of the Coalition for Economic Justice; John Plumb, a candidate for Congress in the 23rd District; and NYSUT board of directors member Joe Sweeney.
