Town of Niagara discusses Verizon upgrades planned for water tower

TOWN OF NIAGARA – Modifications to transmission equipment on the town water tower by Verizon Wireless will net the town an additional $3,600 a year in lease payments.

Supervisor Lee Wallace told the Town Board members meeting Wednesday in a work session that Verizon, which currently leases space on the tower, wants to make improvements to its cellphone communications equipment on the tower outside Town Hall on Lockport Road.

Michael Risman, attorney for the town, said Verizon would pay an additional $300 a month, bringing its monthly payment to $2,800. The lease amendment is expected to be voted on at the Jan. 19 meeting.

In another matter, the board was asked to approve the purchase of a new snowblower attachment for $4,571 under the state vendor contract. Highway Superintendent Robert Herman noted that the equipment would be used to clear snow from paths and sidewalks used by pedestrians in heavily traveled areas.
