Tonawanda police capture one man in bank robbery

Two armed robbers held up the Evans Bank in the Town of Tonawanda Friday evening, police said, and officers later captured one suspect.

Officers were called shortly before 6 p.m. to the bank at 2800 Niagara Falls Blvd., where bank employees reported that two men with handguns entered the bank and stole an undetermined amount of cash.

The bandits’ faces were covered with ski masks.

Police released a photo of one of the robbers jumping over the counter.

An investigation led Town of Tonawanda Police to the Scottish Inn motel on Niagara Falls Boulevard in Niagara County, where they were joined by police from Amherst, North Tonawanda, Niagara County Sheriff’s, New York State Troopers and the FBI.

One man was taken into custody at the motel.

Two suspects fled the motel in an auto.

Anyone with information regarding the robbery is asked to call the Town of Tonawanda tip line at 879-6606.

Tonawanda police would not provide any further information while the investigation is active.
