Cause undetermined for fire at site of Jamestown murders

JAMESTOWN – The cause has yet to be determined for a fire that erupted Friday afternoon in a home where police said two murders occurred Dec. 8.

There was no damage estimate available for the blaze at 235 Barrows St., where Allen P. Witruke allegedly killed his wife and his stepson by stabbing them repeatedly. Witruke was charged with two counts of second-degree murder.

There have been several arsons at vacant homes in Jamestown recently. On New Year’s Eve, police asked for the public’s help in solving blazes Dec. 30 on Spring and North Main streets, as well as another fire on North Main Street on Christmas Eve. There also were arsons in vacant houses on Falconer Street and McKinley Avenue in 2014.
