Untreated sewage discharged into Akron ditch Wednesday

About 150 gallons of untreated sewage was discharged into a Newton Street ditch in the village of Akron Wednesday afternoon after pipes became clogged by grease and baby wipes, according to a notice issued by the state’s emergency alert system.

The discharge went into a ditch on a snowmobile trail about 4 p.m. and lasted about two hours, according to the report.

Akron’s wastewater treatment facility reported to the state that it was not known whether any public areas were affected by the incident.

The blockage was removed by flushing the obstructed sewer line and the area was cleaned up, according to reports.
