Jerome E. Deinzer, of Eggertsville, a retired insurance claims adjuster, died Saturday in Elderwood at Amherst. He was 86.
Born in Buffalo, he was a 1948 graduate of Canisius High School and a 1952 graduate of Canisius College. After attending the University of Buffalo Law School for a year, he was drafted into the Army and stationed in Germany.
After returning from the service, Mr. Deinzer became an insurance claims adjuster with Merchants Mutual, then went on to John Hancock, Robert F. Coleman Insurance Co. and Cigna before retiring in the mid-1990s. In retirement, he worked part time for an independent adjuster.
Mr. Deinzer was active in St. Benedict’s Catholic Church and helped count collections for 17 years.
He also was active with the Order of Alhambra, Cordova Caravan 26; Amherst Post 49, AMVETS; and the Buffalo Claims Association.
He enjoyed singing and was a member of the Buffalo Choral Arts Society. He performed with the Amherst Glee Club for 27 years.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Virginia Gottstein Deinzer; three daughters, Regina Lauer, Rosanne Kilcullen and Marlene Beddome; a son, Thomas; a sister, Genevieve Czilli; a brother, Paul; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Benedict’s Church, 1317 Eggert Road at Main Street, Eggertsville.
