Channel 2 meteorologist Patrick Hammer will return to do forecasts this weekend after being off the air for more than two months after a driving while intoxicated arrest, the station’s general manager said Wednesday afternoon.
Channel 2 General Manager Jim Toellner declined further comment after sending a text confirming that Hammer will be back on this weekend.
The 43-year-old meteorologist, who was presumed to be Kevin O’Connell’s eventual replacement when he was hired several months ago, has been off the air since his Nov. 3 arrest by Town of Hamburg officers after police said his vehicle left South Park Avenue and landed in a ditch.
Toellner said in November that Hammer was “on personal leave.”
At the time, Hammer’s return was believed to be predicated on his seeking help and his court case being resolved to the station’s satisfaction. Hamburg court officials could not be reached to comment on the status of his case.
