Dale A. Breitwieser, former chief of Darien Volunteer Fire Company

DARIEN – Dale A. Breitwieser, the former chief of the Darien Volunteer Fire Company, died Monday at his Darien home after a lengthy illness. He was 60.

Born in Buffalo, he was active in the Darien, Corfu and Crittenden fire companies for more than 42 years.

A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Mr. Breitwieser was a truck driver for the Strate Welding Supply Co. of Lockport from 1996 until his retirement last March.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He is survived by his wife, Judy; a daughter, Krystal Floss; and four brothers, Michael, Wally, Ronnie and Jimmy.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Darien Volunteer Fire Company headquarters, 10537 Allegany Road, Darien Center.
