4 free family things to do

If you’ve ever wanted to learn to ski or teach your kids to ski, this is a great time to do it. Holiday Valley is holding the world’s largest ski and snowboard lesson. You can be a part of breaking a Guinness world record by taking a free learn to ski or learn to snowboard lesson at Holiday Valley at 10 a.m. Jan. 8 Holiday Valley is joining other resorts around the country to give it a go.

Reservations are required by calling 699-3506. You lesson includes rental equipment, a first-timer lesson and a beginner’s area lift ticket. It’s all free and available to anyone age 6 or older. Check out holidayvalley.com for more information.

The Lancaster Library (5466 Broadway, Lancaster) is holding preschool yoga classes for ages 3-5. In the interactive classes, the kids will learn yoga poses, play games and dance to music and storytelling. You can sign up for a four-week session (Jan. 6, 13, 20 and 27) from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Space is limited. Call 683-1120 to register. This branch also holds story time from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Fridays in January for kids ages 2-5 and their caregivers.

The Lackawanna Library (560 Ridge Road, Lackawanna) is holding a special story time for 2-4 year olds with a parent or caregiver. Kids will have a ball listening to songs, stories and doing crafts. It’s free at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 7.

If you want to get your little ones moving, how about preschool "jump-bunch" at the Clarence Public Library (3 Town Place, Clarence). From 11 to 11:45 a.m. Jan. 8, kids will get some great exercise in a structured format. It’s a great way to teach your child coordination, balance and confidence.
