Eleven classes of fifth graders at four Orchard Park grade schools will graduate from the D.A.R.E program over the next month, with graduation ceremonies attended by county and town officials, school district administrators and their instructors, Police Officers Kristen Mazur and Brian Lukowski.
The 14-week courses are held at Eggert Elementary, Ellicott Elementary, St. John Vianney School and the Nativity of Our Lord School. D.A.R.E. stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education.
The program, which operates nationwide, teaches students how to avoid illegal drugs, involvment in street gangs and about the problems caused by violent behavior. The graduation ceremonies will take place at Eggert Elementary at 1:30 p.m., Jan. 20; at Nativity of Our Lord at 12:30 p.m. Jan. 21; at Ellicott Elementary at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 29 and at St. John Vianney at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 4.
