The Williamsville School Board will hold a work session Thursday to consider options for artificial turf in-fill at the district’s high school athletic fields. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the district office boardroom, 105 Casey Road, East Amherst.
Board members do not plan to take action during the work session, but will likely select the type of artificial turf in-fill at their next regular business meeting Jan. 12.
The conversion of athletic fields to artificial turf at the district’s three high schools was included in a $22.4 million project approved by voters in May. Board members have been exploring whether to use turf with crumb rubber in-fill for several months and last month held a public forum to discuss questions regarding the health and safety of in-fill products.
The North High School field project was approved by the state Education Department in November and work is slated to begin this spring, the district reported Monday. The district must decide on the in-fill product in January in order for the project to move forward as scheduled, district officials said.
