WKBW-TV made the worst-kept secret in media circles official today when it announced that Toronto anchor and reporter Ashley Rowe will make her debut two weeks from today as the station's 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. weekday co-anchor.
Those are the newscasts that Joanna Pasceri co-anchored for nine years before leaving the station last month.
Jeff Russo also is getting a promotion simultaneous to Rowe’s arrival. Russo will co-anchor with Rowe at 5 p.m. and 11 p.m., two newscasts that were previously co-anchored by Keith Radford.
Radford will be the solo anchor at 5:30 p.m., the newscast that Russo has been anchoring solo since he left sports for news a year ago. Radford, whose contract runs out in November shortly after he turns 65, also will co-anchor the 6 p.m. newscast with Rowe.
In a Channel 7 release announcing Rowe’s hiring, General Manager Mike Nurse said: The station looks “forward to Ashley joining 7 Eyewitness News as a complement to our established news team. Coming from Toronto she understands the Western New York market and has a keen sense of the growth and progress in our area."
Rowe has been an anchor and reporter at the CTV affiliate in Toronto since 2011 and previously was a writer and reporter for CHCH news and CIXX-FM radio.
The release quotes Rowe as stating: “I have been observing the renaissance happening in Buffalo and the surrounding communities and look forward to telling the stories of the people of Western New York. It’s a great time to join this team and to be a part of a new resurgence in the area.”
