Pond hockey is returning to RiverWorks

Pond hockey is heading back to RiverWorks.

The ninth annual Labatt Blue Buffalo Pond Hockey Tournament will take place Feb. 19-21 at Buffalo RiverWorks, it was announced Monday.

The three-day tournament features 144 teams and nearly 1,000 players, divided into divisions based on skill levels. The tournament schedule will be announced Feb. 7; games begin Friday, and the playoffs take place Saturday and Sunday.

For spectators, there will also be beer -- what brand other than Labatt? -- and live music.

“We feel like we found a winning formula last year,” said Gina Heine, associate brand manager for Labatt Blue, in a news release. “Players, spectators and fans not only enjoyed three days of hockey, but also an awesome party at Buffalo RiverWorks. As we head into our ninth year, we’re excited to build on that momentum and offer players and fans even more experiences at this iconic Buffalo tournament.”

Team registration begins at noon Jan. 5 on www.labattbluepondhockey.com/buffalopond. For questions, team captains should contact tournament director Ed Ellis at Ed@labattbluepondhockey.com.
