New Chautauqua County district attorney

MAYVILLE – Patrick E. Swanson, who was named Friday to serve as acting Chautauqua County district attorney, said Monday he was proud but feeling humble in having been chosen to fill the post his boss, David Foley served until he took over as a Chautauqua County Court judge Friday.

One of Foley’s top prosecutors for the past four years handling northern county felony cases, Swanson, 38, who will serve an interim district attorney through the end of this year barring a gubernatorial appointment, said he would not commit to seeking a full four-year term as district attorney until he sees “how politics in the county play out this year.” A Fredonia resident and husband of Dr. Natalie Guiffreda Swanson and father of two and the son of Melford and Mary Swanson of Sherman, Swanson is a graduate of Wake Forest University and the University of Memphis Law School. Foley is serving as a judge in Erie County Court now and will for several months, according to court officials Swanson worked in the Erie County District Attorney’s office for a year before joining the prosecutorial staff here.
