LOCKPORT – A 19-year-old drunk driver had eight underage passengers in his vehicle - including two in the trunk - when he was stopped early Friday, Niagara County Sheriff’s deputies said,
Authorities were alerted by another motorist that a reckless driver was traveling north on South Transit Road at about 12:30 a.m. Friday.
When patrols intercepted the vehicle on Lockport Road, deputies found that Trevor M. Kureczka had eight passengers, ages 15 to 20 years old, in the vehicle. Two were in the trunk.
After being given a field sobriety test, Kureczka was charged with driving while intoxicated. And because two of his passengers were 15 years old, he also was charged with two violations of Leandra’s Law. Under that law, it is a felony to drive drunk with a person 15 or younger inside the vehicle.
Kureczka was taken to Niagara County Jail in lieu of $750 bail. He is due in the Town of Lockport Court on Tuesday.
