Dawn M. Hough of Cheektowaga, a longtime dental assistant and homemaker who was active in the community, died Tuesday after a long battle with breast cancer in the hospice unit of Beechwood Nursing Home, Getzville. She was 46.
The former Dawn M. Seifert graduated in 1988 with Regents honors from Maryvale High School, where she was secretary of the Maryvale Chorale and vice president of the Maryvale chapter of DECA.
She studied at Buffalo State College. As a dental assistant, she was employed by Elite Dental, Williamsville, and Healthy Smiles Family, West Seneca. An avid gardener, she enjoyed growing flowers and vegetables, and also was an enthusiastic poet.
During the 1990s, Mrs. Hough lived in Corfu. She was adept at crafts, with many of her works becoming gifts for family members on special occasions.
She was a parishioner of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Harris Hill, and since 2011, was a weekly adorer at Christ the King Perpetual Adoration Chapel, Snyder.
Her brother, Mark Seifert, said his sister “inspired others struggling with cancer to keep going. She was always the one to uplift the other.”
Survivors include a daughter, Haley-Jane; a sister, Melissa Leventhal; two other brothers, Joseph and Timothy Seifert; her parents, Jane Pempsell and Edward Bruce Seifert; and a grandson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Monday in Our Lady Help of Christians Chapel, 4125 Union Road, Cheektowaga.
