Detectives were called to the 100 block of Wilkes Avenue early Thursday afternoon after a man was shot several times, according to a resident who lives nearby.
The victim was found in the middle of the street and transported by ambulance for treatment of gunshot wounds.
The Wilkes Avenue resident who did not want to be identified, said he was making lunch for his wife when he heard the shots.
“Bam, bam, bam,” the man said, describing the noise that interrupted his day. “I ran to the window, but I had to be careful because I didn’t want any shots coming into the house.”
As he ran to the window, the man said he recalled hearing a car take off down the street.
“I have never seen anything like that, somebody shot and laying in the middle of the street,” said the man, who has lived on Wilkes for 10 years. “There’s been a few shots fired on the street in the summer time; I’ve heard that.”
It could not immediately be determined whether the victim’s injuries were life threatening.
Police remained on the scene long after the shooting.
Wilkes is in northeast past of the city in the Kenfield neighborhood.
Buffalo has recorded 40 homicides this year.
