Eugene R. Sittniewski , World War II veteran, Moog quality control specialist

Eugene R. Sittniewski, of Buffalo, a quality control specialist and a World War II veteran, died Tuesday in Buffalo Veterans Affairs Medical Center after a short illness. He was 92.

Born in Buffalo, he was a graduate of Hutchinson Central High School and served in the Coast Guard during World War II as a radio operator in the Aleutian Islands.

He worked for Twin Industries in quality assurance for aerospace projects, then was a quality assurance officer for Moog, Inc. He retired in 1988.

A longtime resident of Kaisertown, Mr. Sittniewski enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening. A fisherman, he took many fishing trips to the Thousand Islands. He also was adept at woodworking and made cabinets, tables and chairs for family and friends.

He was a life member of Pvt. Leonard Post Jr. Post 6251, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

His wife of 39 years, the former Leona Waldowski, died in 1986.

Survivors include two daughters, Claudia Sitzman and Shelley Thompson.

A Mass of Christian Burial with military honors will be offered at 9 a.m. Jan. 9 in St. Casimir’s Catholic Church, Weimar and Casimir streets.
