The Erie County Department of Senior Services and The Pride Center of Western New York are launching a partnership to provide information and access to services for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer senior citizens.
Adina Garfinkel, a Senior Services staff member with the county, has been assigned to work with the LGBTQ community. She will be at The Pride Center of Western New York, 200 South Elmwood Ave., from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and 9 to 11 a.m. Fridays. In addition, other office hours can be held by individual appointment.
Having an Erie County employee at The Pride Center will provide opportunities to seek counseling on entitlements and benefits, information for caregivers, access to home care, day care and home-delivered meals, and introductions to other local agencies providing short- and long-term assistance and support.
Garfinkel also will be available to speak to local senior and LGBTQ groups about the needs of members of the LGBTQ community and the isolation they experience.
