The Buffalo Evening News inspired not one, but two Buffalo Evening News marches.
The first, according to the sheet music, was arranged by W.T. Crary, dedicated to the 65th Regiment of Buffalo and played by Doring’s Post Band of Troy at State Camp, Peekskill, on July 20, 1892.
The second, according to handwritten notes in The News archive, was composed by John W. Surra and performed at the Evening News Fourth of July show in 1949; in Kleinhans Music Hall by the U.S. Marine Band; and on the NBC radio network by Paul Lavell’s Band of America. The march was dedicated to Edward H. Butler.
