Free Christmas trees for people in need will be available for pickup from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday in the rear parking lot at Philip Sheridan School, 3200 Elmwood Ave., Town of Tonawanda.
The tree giveaway on Christmas Eve is a long tradition started by former Erie County Legislator Charles Swanick and Arida Tree Farmers. This year North Town Nursery Center and Zittel Country Market are donating trees.
Volunteers will help load trees into vehicles. After 1 p.m., remaining trees will be left in the parking lot for anyone to take. Town of Tonawanda Highway Superintendent Bill Swanson said his department will mulch any trees that are not taken.
