Fredonia man charged with leaving scene of injury accident

FREDONIA – State Police charged a Fredonia man on Sunday with leaving the scene of an accident after a three-vehicle crash in Chautauqua County that sent one man to the hospital.

The crash happened Friday at Route 5 and VanBuren Road in Pomfret, State Police said.

According to police, Robert Henssler, 70, was driving northwest on VanBuren Road when he failed to yield to a vehicle driven by Donaven O’Dell, 19, of Dunkirk. O’Dell was driving northeast on Route 5.

Henssler’s vehicle struck O’Dell’s on the passenger side, causing it to spin off the shoulder of the road and hit a parked car. Henssler initially stopped his vehicle, but left before exchanging information. O’Dell was transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Police charged Henssler with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and failing to yield the right of way. He’s due in Pomfret Town Court on Dec. 29.
