Schimminger’s support for Silver is appalling
After reading local lawmakers’ reactions to Sheldon Silver’s conviction on corruption charges, I was struck by Democrat Robin Schimminger’s comments.
As the ranking Assembly member, he expects an appeal of the guilty verdict and predicted – and I quote – the “final chapter has yet to be written” regarding Silver’s conviction. In my mind, this clearly was Schimminger’s one last opportunity to rally around “the tattered flag” of a convicted felon.
I certainly don’t want to deny Silver due process under the law, but being found guilty on all seven counts of corruption should send a clear message that justice has been served.
