County officials are being penny-wise, pound-foolish
Regarding the Dec. 4 story, “Refugee havens feel a budget knife,” one wonders at the wisdom of the Erie County Legislature when it cuts in half the budget of the nonprofit Jericho Road Community Health Center, serving refugees and neighbors on the East Side. Will the county now be funding its own health clinic in this area?
Also, since we will soon be having new refugee neighbors, is it sensible to cut in half the funds for the Burmese Community Support Center on the West Side? Will the county be funding a new center there?
Perhaps doubling the funds to these agencies will be the better fiscal road to follow!
