Bandits announce roster for opening night

The Buffalo Bandits have set their 20-man roster for the upcoming season, and it's a cast that should be familiar to most of their fans.

The team made few changes to last year's squad. Daryl Veltman was signed as a free agent; he played for Calgary last season. Anthony Malcom was the team's top pick in the September draft and made the team. Two second-round choices from 2014, Matthew Bennett and Tyler Ferreira, are on the roster.

The biggest surprise was that veteran David Brock was placed on the practice squad. There he joins 2015 draft choice and former Canisius College standout Tim Edwards, among others.

The Bandits have other players on various roster lists who could play a role this season. Chad Culp probably will come off the suspended list after the first game. Andrew Watt is on injured reserve.

The current roster:

Forwards: Ryan Benesch, Ferreira, Malcom, Dhane Smith, Mark Steenhuis, Jerome Thompson, and Veltman.

Defense: Jamie Batson, Bennett, Kevin Brownell, Brandon Goodwin, Alex Kedoh Hill, Mitch Jones, Steve Priolo, Billy Dee Smith, Jay Thorimbert, Nick Weiss, and Mitch Wilde.

Goalies: Davide DiRuscio and Anthony Cosmo.

Practice: Tim Edwards, Craig England, Adam Will and Brock.

The Bandits open their season on Jan. 9 against Calgary at home.
