The South Buffalo Community Table, one of oldest soup kitchens in Buffalo, is appealing to the public for food and cash donations in order to provide for the many people in need of their services, especially during the holiday season.
Situated in the basement of Good Shepherd Community of Faith Church, 187 Southside Pkwy., volunteers serve about 70 hot meals from 4 to 5 p.m. each day, Sunday through Thursday, according to Kathleen Higgins Greeley, president of the soup kitchen’s Board of Directors.
With schools closing for the holidays, she said demand will further increase because children who qualify for school lunches will not be receiving them.
Monetary and canned food donations are needed.
“The money allows us to purchase items that we run short on and to buy fresh fruits, vegetables and meat,” Higgins Greeley said. “We also need paper product donations, bleach for cleaning, garbage bags, liquid dish soap and coffee. We go through volumes of these items.”
Anyone interested in making a donation can go the Community Table between 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
