The Queen City Ferry landing will be paved from the access gangway through a portion of the boat storage area to Fuhrmann Boulevard, improving entry to the Outer Harbor for pedestrians and bicyclists.
There will also be site amenities and aesthetic features, including signs, benches, planters, bicycle racks and accessory structures.
The improvements were contained in an $825,000 contract awarded to Pinto Construction Services Monday by Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp. The winning bid was the lowest of five submitted in response to an advertisement seeking a contractor.
The project is slated to begin in February 2016 and be completed by May 14.
“The bike ferry has proven to be a success with Canalside visitors,” said Robert Gioia, the waterfront agency’s chairman. “This project will create an even better experience for riders as they disembark to explore and enjoy the Outer Harbor.”
