A stiff wind will join the unseasonably warm temperatures today around Western New York.
Wind gusts of up to 50 mph will be shooting off Lake Erie starting late this morning. Because of those conditions, the National Weather Service in Cheektowaga has issued a wind advisory from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. for Erie, Niagara, Chautauqua, Orleans and Wyoming counties.
Because of the shape of the lake, winds sometimes rush down towards Buffalo where Lake Erie comes to a point, said meteorologist Shawn Smith. "A lot of times we can get funneling," Smith said.
Aside from the wind, the region will maintain a high temperature that's 25 to 30 degrees above normal. Thursday's high reached 54 degrees, and today's high will likely be a couple degrees higher, Smith said.
And it's going to get even warmer over the weekend, with highs in the low to mid-60s.
