Buffalo man arrested in domestic dispute acquitted

A man arrested following a domestic confrontation at his North Buffalo home in August was acquitted of two assault charges and had two other charges dismissed in Buffalo City Court on Thursday.

Judge Amy C. Martoche dismissed the two most serious charges against Stephen Keane, 48, before his nonjury trial concluded and acquitted him of charges of restricting the breathing of an individual and of harassment, according to Keane’s attorney, Robert Cutting.

Initial reports said that Keane was accused of threatening two women with a machete. Cutting said his client had contended all along that he was the victim in the altercation and recordings show that he was the first to call 911 for help. Another family member who witnessed the struggle made a second call, Cutting said.
