Original Honey’s restaurant seized by tax agents

The Original Honey’s restaurant at 4300 Maple Road has been seized by the state Department of Taxation and Finance.

A representative from the tax department arrived at the building Thursday, asked for the manager’s keys and told her to leave the building. He had the locks changed and hung a sign in the window saying the property had been sezied for nonpayment of taxes.

Third-generation owner Larry Pacifico said he was blindsided by the seizure and is working with his attorneys to resolve the situation.

He is general manager at the restaurant, but said it was owned by his mother, who passed away in October. He had recently paid $49,000 toward an $80,000 debt and thought he could continue to make payments. He said he never received a 10-day notice the state tax department was supposed to have sent.

The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance could not be reached for comment.

Pacifico said he has several banquets booked at the seized location, and is trying to recover paperwork locked inside to contact customers and help them make alternate arrangements.

The restaurant’s Niagara Falls Boulevard location in Niagara Falls remains open.
