Erie County should not reduce aid to immigrants
I believe that we define ourselves both individually and as a community by how we respond when faced with crisis and challenge, as in these times following the Paris attacks.
While it seems that next year’s county budget overall is a very good one, I am disappointed that the Legislature cut funding to two organizations that provide aid to immigrants in great need: Jericho Road Ministries and the Burmese Community Support Center. Rather than reacting to these attacks by reducing aid to immigrants, I suggest that we reach out to them even more by directing more of our charitable contributions to these organizations in order to make up the difference.
