Bishop Richard J. Malone will mark the beginning of the Jubilee Year of Mercy for the Catholic Church by opening the Door of Mercy during Mass at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. The door symbolizes the welcoming of all to the church.
The Jubilee of Mercy, which began Tuesday and continues through Nov. 20, was declared earlier this year by Pope Francis. As part of the observance, the Diocese of Buffalo will make the sacrament of penance more accessible, especially during Advent and Lent.
Most Catholic churches in the diocese will be open for confession from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays in addition to their regular confession schedules. A complete list of parishes and their confession schedules can be found at buffalodiocese.org.
