Tops converting Sanborn grocery store

Tops Friendly Markets will open a new store in a Benderson Development-owned plaza at 2956 Saunders Settlement Road in Sanborn.

The store was formerly Sanborn Marketplace, which lost its lease. It had been independently owned since 1965.

Tops will renovate the property and expand it into neighboring space in the plaza, doubling it from 6,000 square feet to 12,000 square feet. The store is closed while it undergoes a $1.5 million renovation and will reopen in March or April.

Tops took over another store in Warren, Pa.. It is planning a $1.4 million renovation of the store, which was formerly a Thorne’s Market. The store has an existing attached fueling station.
