Letter: Tax exemption is the least towns can do for veterans

Tax exemption is the least towns can do for veterans

Shame on the Lake Shore School Board for not passing the veterans’ tax exemption, claiming there’s not enough money. Almost all area school boards have approved this exemption. Most of the vets are in their 70s and 80s. Though they have not had children in school for 25 to 30 years, they have nonetheless “shared the burden” of those who did by paying their school taxes every year. The exemption pales to the amount of money they paid during that time.

For their service, sometimes under arduous conditions, some who still relive the horrors of combat, they are rewarded with a slap in the face. That’s OK, you can rest assured tonight knowing someone, somewhere in uniform, has your back. Too bad you don’t have theirs.

Finally, if you see me walking down the street, don’t bother thanking me for my service, and I won’t mention your disservice. Have a nice day!
