Lewiston man headed for prison on gun possession charge

LOCKPORT – A second-time felon from Lewiston pleaded guilty in Niagara County Court Monday to illegal possession of a loaded revolver.

DeWayne M. Holland, 33, of Saunders Settlement Road, admitted to a reduced charge of attempted second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Judge Sara Sheldon said she will sentence Holland March 4 to three years in prison and five years of post-release supervision.

Holland was arrested Oct. 13, 2014, at the scene of a street fight in Niagara Falls, when police said they found the gun on him. Holland, a married father of three, is a second-time felon, having been convicted of dealing drugs in 2009, and the three-year sentence is the least Sheldon can impose on him.

“I have no problem with this man being out on bail,” the judge said.
