Letter: Knee-jerk reactions rarely solve problems

Knee-jerk reactions rarely solve problems

Fasten your seat belt and get ready for the next knee-jerk reaction from the governor with the latest tragedy.

When the tragedy in Newtown, Conn., happened, the state of New York was blessed with the SAFE Act.

When a state trooper was tragically killed during a routine traffic stop, we were blessed with the Move Over Law, which causes more chaos than good.

When a child was killed walking in Delaware Park by an out-of-control car that was driving on Route 198, the speed limit was lowered to 30 mph without any forethought or study. Who runs an expressway 15 feet from a park walkway and doesn’t think to build a barrier or guardrail in the first place?

What happened in San Bernardino, Calif., is just the beginning of what’s to come in a free society like ours, and taking away our guns or our right to purchase an AR-15 or an AK-47 to protect ourselves and our families isn’t going to help anyone.

The greatest deterrent to a small group of terrorists looking to inflict death and terror on innocent Americans is innocent Americans returning fire.
