Runt at the Riv

Todd Rundgren never sits still long enough for his fans to grow bored with him. Over the past year alone, he’s released the EDM-flavored solo album “Global,” indulged in electronic prog-rock with Norwegian indie artists Emil Nikolaisen and Hans-Peter Lindstrom on the album “Runddans,” toured as a member of Ringo Starr’s All-Starr Band, and teamed with renowned DJ Dam-Funk and a pair of dancers/backing vocalists to present the ambitious “Global” material in the live setting. (That tour stopped by the Town Ballroom for a rapturous evening in April.)

Now, Rundgren has hit the road for a winter tour that finds him in yet another guise: Joined by longtime compatriots Jesse Gress, (guitar) Kasim Sulton, (bass) Prairie Prince (drums) and John Ferenzik, (keys) Rundgren is performing in the “An Evening With” format, pulling songs from throughout his 40-plus year career, in genres ranging from singer/songwriter to prog-rock, power-pop to EDM, and New Wave to epic balladry.

Rundgren is no stranger to Buffalo audiences, having performed in venues as varied as Kleinhans Music Hall, Canalside, the Tralf and even the old Aud. On Dec. 6, he’ll try a new venue on for size: Beginning at 8 p.m., Rundgren and band will make their North Tonawanda debut at the Riviera Theatre (67 Webster St.)
