Pigeons Playing Ping Pong make good music, too

The band name of Baltimore’s Pigeons Playing Ping Pong is intriguing all on its own. After all, you don’t often see birds of any feather squaring off at table tennis.

But for the quartet comprised of guitarists/vocalists Greg Ormont and Jeremy Schon, bassist Ben Carrey and drum wizard Alex Petropulos, its name is only part of the allure. The band’s Old Bay-seasoned style of jangling electro-funk provides the rest, as should be on display in a show at 9 p.m. Dec. 4 in Buffalo Iron Works.

Still rolling off last year’s “Psychology” and veterans of such popular festival stops as Catskill Chill, the Werk Out and Camp Barefoot, the Pigeons have made their moniker with the type of versatile jams enjoyed with costumes, hula-hoops and an intimate knowledge of the Phish album, “Hoist.” Combine this proficiency with an ability to produce positive vibes via electronic experimentation and winding guitar solos, and you’ve got the makings of a colorful night in Buffalo’s Cobblestone District.

Doors are at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door.
